How often you replace your 20x4.5 sediment filter depends upon water quality, usage, temperature, pressure, and more. In general, you should be replacing the cartridge every 2-6 months, or once you notice a significant pressure drop and flow rate decrease.
Yes. Big Blue is just another name for 4.5” filters given by the OEM brand Pentek, which has become an industry-wide name for 4.5” cartridges. A 20x4.5 filter cartridge replacement will fit any 20” Big Blue / 20” BB housings.
20-inch filters with a 4.5” diameter are high flow filters, great for whole house filtration, light commercial systems, as a pre-filter for RO and other filtration systems, municipal and well water applications, and more. These cartridges reduce sediment particulates from water, for clearer water and protection of other filter media.
The micron rating you need depends upon desired filtration levels and flow rates, application, water quality, and more. For most whole house applications, 10-25 microns is sufficient.
