As of 2020, Whirlpool updated the EDR5RXD1 locking mechanism, and we updated the SpiroPure SP-WP500 at the same time to ensure it fits refrigerators that use both the older and newer styles of locking mechanism.
The newly delivered SP-WP500 locking mechanism / key lock is different from the previous, old SP-WP500 filter and doesn’t fit. Did you change the filter?
Yes. We updated the SpiroPure SP-WP500 locking mechanism in 2020 when Whirlpool updated the mechanism on the EDR5RXD1 filter cartridge. The newer version still fits in refrigerators that use the old mechanism, but may need some adjustments. Will you please try the troubleshooting method in the attached PDF?
