FAQs on 4040 Industrial RO Membrane

What is the benefit of an ultra low pressure RO membrane?

An ultra low pressure RO membrane delivers strong permeate output while requiring less operating pressure than a standard membrane, reducing energy consumption and operating costs. The SpiroPure SP-UL4040 performs RO filtration at roughly two-thirds the pressure of other standard RO membrane elements.
The SpiroPure SP-UL4040 produces an average permeate output of 2,400 GPD (±15%) at 150 psi, with a 15% fresh water recovery rate, tested against 1,500 ppm feedwater NaCl. Compare to the SP-XL4040's 100 psi test performance to demonstrate performance in extremely low pressure system environments.
The SpiroPure SP-UL4040 operates at 150 PSI under standard test conditions, with a maximum operating pressure of 600 PSI. This lower pressure requirement compared to standard brackish membranes helps reduce energy consumption and operating costs.
Most 4040 RO membranes, including the SP-UL4040, last 2 to 4 years depending on feed water quality, usage volume, and pre-filtration. Poor pre-filtration or high sediment and chlorine loads can shorten that considerably, while proper maintenance even with continuous use can extend it toward the higher end.
The SP-UL4040 is suitable for low salt-content surface water, groundwater, tap water, and municipal water sources, with a maximum recommended NaCl of 5,000 ppm. It's a good fit for small and medium commercial pure water systems prioritizing energy efficiency.
The SpiroPure SP-UL4040 is priced to offer compatible ultra low-pressure performance at a lower cost than comparable brand-name elements like the Dupont Filmtec LE-4040. See this page for current RO membrane prices.
