Seawater Membranes Are Shipped Wet

An important industry practice for seawater desalination RO membranes is to have them "shipped wet." After being tested to industry standards, our membranes are preserved for protection during shipping and for future use. The preservative is food-grade, and is found within the membrane itself and not in the air-tight packaging. The preservative creates a moist environment for the filter media, allowing the permeability and performance to be maintained by preventing biological growth during storage as well as providing a longer shelf-life of one-year from the manufacturing date printed on the package.

What is the salt rejection rate of the SP-SW4040 seawater membrane?

The SpiroPure 4040 seawater desalination element has a salt rejection test performance rate of 99.7%. The seawater desalination spiral is configured to withstand high pressure environments for excellent salt rejection from high NaCl feedwater.
The number 4040 is shorthand for the membrane’s physical dimensions. It combines the nominal diameter (4.0 inches) with the nominal length (40 inches) into a universal model number. For reference, a smaller size such as the 2.5” by 21” model would convert to 2521.
For optimal salt rejection and permeate flow, saltwater filtration membranes including the 4040 size operate at around 800 psi based on feedwater NaCl of 32,000 ppm and other specific lab conditions. Real world operating pressure can vary based on water quality, temperature, pH and other specifications with a maximum applied pressure of 1,200 psi.
